May Archaeology and Historic Preservation Month

May Archaeology and Historic Preservation Month
Events at Boise Public Library

(Boise, ID – May 8, 2008) Explore Idaho’s mining archaeology and
history this month in programs at Boise Public Library. The events are
part of a series of programs coordinated by the Idaho State Historical
Society, and reflect the significance that mining played in the
development of Idaho.

On Wednesday, May 14, at 7 p.m., learn about the iDIG: Idaho Digital
Memories Project. Linda Morton-Keithly, Idaho State Historical Society
the Public Archives Research Library (PARL), will explore the ongoing
efforts to digitize mining photos and records at the PARL. The program
will be held in the Lemhi Room at the Library! at Hillcrest, 5246 W
Overland Road in the Hillcrest Shopping Center at Overland and Orchard.
For more information, call 562-4996.

On Wednesday, May 21, at 7 p.m., Idaho Humanities Council speaker Tom
Blanchard will present Mining in Idaho Today and Yesterday. In the late
1800s, Idaho Territory had seen several major gold rushes. Further gold
and silver discoveries attracted thousands of miners, who changed the
political climate and the landscape. The impact of those times remains
with us today. Blanchard will speak in the Sycamore Room at the
Library! at Collister, 4724 West State Street, at the corner of State
and Collister. For more information, call 562-4995.
