Letter: Impacts of Mass Immigration

New West Unfiltered By yehlingling, New West Unfiltered 2-16-07

Dear Editor:
As an immigrant who used to prepare immigration applications, I wish to respond to your 2/15 article, “Senate Votes to Deny Illegal Aliens Licenses.” Although some immigrants are assets, the impact of mass immigration is environmental, fiscal and political:

On 7/7/06, Mexican American professor Armando Navarro, who has organized many pro-illegal alien rallies, was quoted in the Los Angeles Times as saying, “A new majority is forming. Everything will change. The White House will be within our reach. We might have to change the name to the Brown House.”

According to the 2000 Census, the U.S. population had increased by about 13 percent since 1990, but those who identified themselves as Mexican had grown by 53 percent. If this trend continues, within a few decades the majority of people in the U.S. could very well be of Mexican descent. Although many Mexican Americans are patriotic, during last spring’s massive demonstrations, many protesters waved Mexican flags and pressured the U.S. with demands identical to Mexico’s.

Granting benefits to illegal migrants will lead to higher illegal immigration. If another amnesty is granted, millions of legalized aliens will become potential voters (and users of energy and social services).  Is Mexico using both legal and illegal migration to influence American policies, our future elections and to extend the Mexican nation?  Shouldn’t the United States use Mexico’s legal immigration as a model and enforce our immigration laws like Mexico?

Sincerely,
