Workshop on Forest Restoration and Fire Hazard Reduction for Landowners

New West Unfiltered By Matthew Koehler, New West Unfiltered 10-09-06

The WildWest Institute and the National Network of Forest Practitioners is hosting an all day Forest Restoration Workshop in DeBorgia on Friday, October 20, 2006. The event is free and open to the public. Participants should meet at the DeBorgia School House/Community Center at 10 am.

The workshop is geared towards landowners who want to increase the ecological integrity of their woodlots and forest lands and simultaneously reduce the risk of catastrophic fire. It will include a walk-through of private forest land in the DeBorgia area in order to discuss on-the-ground management techniques.

The instructor for the workshop is forester Mark Vander Meer from the National Network of Forest Practitioners (www.nnfp.org). The workshop is made possible through a grant the WildWest Institute received from the National Forest Foundation.

Participants are asked to bring their own food and water and be prepared for any type of weather and some light walking in the woods. For more information contact the WildWest Institute at 406-542-7343 or email: info@wildwestinstitute.org.
