Stranded on the Ice
A Different Kind of Dog Rescue
By Jonathan Weber, 12-15-09
I was driving to work this morning and there was a bit of a hubbub at the Maclay Bridge - a fire engine and a police car, and three firemen in rescue gear at the edge of the river. I saw a dog on the ice, and my first (scary) thought was that it was waiting by the hole where its owner had fallen through. But no. The dog had simply gotten himself out onto the ice and gotten scared, and refused to move. A fire fighter, secured by a line being held by his colleagues, inched out to save the dog, which of course was scared of him too. I left before the drama was over, but I assume dog and rescuers are fine.

You made me laugh out loud.
Some stuff happened, I didn't stick around to see how it turned out, but I assume all is well. More news at 11?
P.S. he is a channel surfer
Just today I had to lay down the law to 3 curs...either get the hell out of the way or learn to drive. These same slobbering fools act like they have never seen me when I come back from opening the damn gate, only to pile against me after showing me their fangs when I open the truck door. I think they just like to screw with the new guy. I will bring biscuits the next time their owner needs help with his stinking froze up water tractor won't run cause its jellin everything breaks when its cold grateful when we come to feed them cows and where's that chinook?
Dog stories in the dead of winter, three dog nights, to build a fire, call of the wild, good stuff. How' bout we lighten up for the holidays and tell some more dog stories?...the good sentimental kind. Times are tough on the plains right about now.
