Retrievers should wait, too
Boise River Too High for Floating

It’s going to be hot this weekend – in the ‘90s, says KIVI Ch. 6 Weatherguy Scott Dorval, but despite the wild temptation to mark the start of warm weather, don’t float the Boise river yet.
Officials at the US Geological Survey and Ada County Recreation ask that we refrain because high river flows make floating “extremely dangerous” and because really wet river banks are prone to cave in.
Waiting to float is a deep personal sacrifice for us, but we’ll do it. Actually, not do it. Right, Boiseans? I call on especially you dimwits who take babies down the river with you (while you drink beer) to skip the float until the official go-ahead, and then get some common sense and leave the baby with grandma. (I know, beer on the river is illegal, but don’t tell me you’re not chugging it anyway.) It doesn’t seem as though a law against putting babies in mortal peril should be necessary, but apparently, it is. Somebody look into that, willya?
The popular Barber Park put-in is closed until water levels are at or below 1500 CFS, and until the Boise Fire dive team put themselves in peril to clear downed trees, snagged brush and other riverbank detritus.
I hope it’s not the metric ton of sticks annually thrown in the river for my dog Honeybear to retrieve that are “riverbank detritus.”
