Everlands Suspends Operations, Lone Mountain Ranch Remains Open to Public
By Jonathan Weber, 3-12-09
Amid the recent swirl of news relating to the financial problems of Western resorts comes word that Everlands, a private club that was launched barely two years ago and acquired the historic Lone Mountain Ranch in Big Sky, is suspending operations. Everlands, founded by Philadelphia-based investor Bob Burch, aimed to acquire a series of small, eco-conscious inns and lodges around the world and make them available to members who paid half-a-million dollars or more to join and become part-owners.
But the economic meltdown has virtually destroyed the market for all types of high-end destination clubs, several of which - including the ill-fated Yellowstone World Club - are now in bankruptcy. Everlands also had $55 million in backing from Lehman Bros., which went bankrupt last fall.
Lone Mountain Ranch will continue to operate as a public resort, according to Julian Hutton, who heads the hotel management operations for Lifestyle Development, the parent company of Everlands. That will likely be welcome news to the many long-time fans of Lone Mountain Ranch, who were concerned that the property's world-class cross-country ski trails and funky historic cabins would eventually be closed to the public.
Everlands' other properties, including a fishing lodge in Alaska and inns in Martha's Vineyard and New Zealand, will also continue to operate as public resorts. Hutton said longer-term financing issues and the status of memberships that had already been bought were still being worked out.

btw - on Everlands - it looks like the Protect the Powder group up at YC has decided to work with Eric Ladd of Everlands to make a "member's bid" on YC...probably the only way they can save Everlands is to try and put something like YC together with it, using other YC member's monies to boot.
Hey YC members - do you really want YC as part of Everlands?
Also, didn't Eric Ladd recently acquire a realty company that Edra Blixseth owned? i heard Edra didn't respond to a court request and Eric picked up the Big Springs realty group for a song (or less!). I wonder if Eric is going to fulfill the several million dollars of unpaid commissions that Big Springs owes to its employees?
i personally want to see Lone Mountain Ranch as a wonderful standalone amenity to everyone in Big Sky and the surrounding area.
Now there is an interesting guy. He did not pick up anything from Edra. He is suing Tim Blixseth as Edra refuses to pay him his commissions owed to him by the company you mention. Eric filed suit against Tim Blixseth but its a worthless suit. Eric is also mentioned in court filings where Sam Byrne was pissed off Eric was at the club approaching members to buy into a members bid. In fact in an email now part of Evidence in the Trial coming up, CS will demonstrate once again SAM was telling Edra to have him thrown off the property for interfereing with Sam's quest to get the club cheap.
Hey Eric, you need to file suit against CH and EDRA as they are the ones who owe you your back comissions. They are obligations of the companies Edra now owns and not Tim Blixseth.
Eric, since Lehman has pulled out I guess you are no longer looking to buy assets from EDRA? Are you selling the asset on the east coast now? Everlands was a nice heart felt approach to a club but would never work as you need money to make money and this requires that you cant always GO GREEN and give shareholder value. Again, heartfelt but not practical. Go back to selling Real Estate. You were great at it! By the way, we have met on three occassions so I know you know who I am.
Good luck with your members bid. You have a good chance to beat Sam Byrne. I have a feeling Sam Byrne is in for a real trial! Back off the suit from Tim Blixseth. He gave you a great chance and you made a killing at YC, so lets be fair here! Times are tuff but you are going after the very person who put millions in your pocket. Do you really want to screw that all up over 1.5m of unpaid comissions? Again its Edra's legal problem and not Tim's
It sure is sad when 'money' comes in and takes things from those of us that live here, and TRULY appreciate what we have. But how can love for something win over MONEY?
on the member group trying to buy the club...the other YC members have a simple question to answer - do you want YC to be part of Everlands? check and see if Burch is part of the money behind "Protect the Powder." you might want to ask who you are protecting the powder for...
Occasionally, a company tries to do the right thing for its employees, its friends and neighbors. No one will be better off if Lone Mountain Ranch or Everlands closes their doors.
It is still pretty much the same as it was when he was Foreman. The B-K was initially set up as a place for the 'well-to-do' to come and 'play' western. Butler was the Butler of Grain bin butlers.
Everyone welcome!
