Contest: Pick my costume
Halloween Weekend Approaching and I Need a Costume
By J. Gelband, 10-23-07
It’s convenient that Halloween is on a Wednesday, because folks can throw costume parties the Saturday before, which happens to be exactly what a bazillion people are doing.
Boise is full of Halloween activity this Saturday, and I’m a little nervous because I still don’t have a costume. Any suggestions for an easy, comfortable costume on the cheap are much appreciated.
Despite what one might think, I am not that into Halloween. It always seems to creep up on me while I am still wearing flip flops and hoping it isn’t too late for an Indian summer.
I have a turtle costume I wore for the last three years (although one year I was a tortuga, which is Spanish for turtle). It is a good costume, but it might be getting a little played out by now, so I’m taking ideas for a new costume.
Here’s your chance to help: Offer costume proposals in the comments section below. Rules are simple: I need to be comfortable (sneakers), it needs to be inexpensive and it can’t be Larry Craig related, because that, too, will invariably be played out. I’ll pick a costume from your suggestions and the winner will get a NewWest.net T-shirt.
Hurry, I only have until Saturday to get ready!
Also, please share what you are going to dress as for Halloween, and let’s skip the I’m Not Telling Game because no one is going to steal your rad idea at this late a date.

Well in terms of costumes....you know the booger was always a hit. One of my favorite costumes was a dear in headlights. I just wore brown, stuck little ears on a headband and stood with my eyes open wide. Simple, yet challenging.
That's exactly what I did and it was a cheap, easy success! He wins a NewWest.net T-shirt.
I'd like to share the Zebra Costume, for it's simple & cheap, even though your contest is over, perhaps it could be used for a future costume.
Need Black & White separate:
Leotards/pantyhose
yarn
hairbands for long hair
black gloves & boots
black body suit, long sleeved
masking tape or white felt with glue
*either a mask or paint for face (persons choice)
*if you have a black fur vest in the closet like i did
Place the black leotards on top of white, and very careful cut thin holes here & there. black body suit on top. cut masking tape strips with uneven ends and tape to your body suit to keep bodysuit in tacked or cut white strips of felt and glue gun them on. wear fur vest over body suit. if you have the length in hair, make little ponytails down the center of head (like a mane), alternating black & white hairbands. Take black & white yarn, make strips as long as desired length for tail, I'm braiding them to intertwine. tie around the base of bodysuit. Wear mask or paint face with black & white stripes (I'm doing painted stripes). Then do black gloves & black boots.
I have made many over the years, as that is what I prefer. I am in my 30's & still love dressing up for Halloween. Come see me for many more ideas & photographs!! :)
