“Libby, Montana” Film Nominated for Emmy

“Libby, Montana,” a documentary by two Missoula filmmakers about the town that was brought to its knees by asbestos poisoning and then embroiled in the battles with W.R. Grace Corporation and the EPA that followed, has been nominated for a National News and Documentary Emmy.

The film, made in 2004 by High Plains Films’ Doug Hawes Davis and Drury Gunn Carr, is in the running for an Emmy in the the “Outstanding Continuing Coverage of a News Story—Long Form” category. Libby, Montana was broadcast last year on PBS’s POV program.

“Libby, Montana” has garnered rave reviews since its release for its intimacy, perception, sense of humor and mostly, for the genuine voice it gives the people of Libby.

The National News and Documentary Emmy award winners will be announced in September in New York.

Doug and Dru...AWSOME!!!! I am so excited for you two and forever greatful for what you have done/shown to educate people to the truth about something that sickens and kills your entire family. The stories of Libby Mt are endless and heart wrenching to the human deadly exposure that was knowingly done to all the people of Libby and the world.This nitemare/holocaust began in Libby in 1963.The truth was told in 1999,as to why,we are sick and dying.And since then,Libby has continued to kill people by the lies being told that Libby is a safe place to live and raise a family.Here it is almost 2009.10 years of continued deadly exposure.Maybe the next documentry could be about WHY the killings have continued and who are the liers in this deadly game they play at the cost of human life.It is my honor and joy to have been apart of Libby Montana and meeting you both and becoming friends in this moment in time that will last a life time for all to see and learn from our mistakes for the sake of all those we leave behind, our children and theirs.I continue to tell all who will listen to stay away from Libby Mt as Libby is not a safe place to anything that breathes.Take care,good luck and thank you both for what you have done for so many people that have the need and right to know the truth about something that kills you.Libby Mt kills you. Libby is a beautiful community in Northwest Montana. And, while it has gone through the effects of terrible, terrible mining of the past, the town of Libby and the surrounding areas have a future beyond asbestos. There are two mining companies looking to extract minerals from the mountains of Northwest Montana. One of which is using state of art, environmentally benign mining techniques. The other also making environmentally responsible decisions and actions. Libby has a bright, prosperous, clean future...one beyond tragedy.

Environmentally friendly.What is so friendly about inhaling/swallowing Tremolite asbestos fibers that not only kill you but your last 10 years or so till death is pure hell.Libby is not safe to anything that breathes and until it is safe to breathe,how can anyone knowingly allow other people/children to move into a town that will kill you.The only future Libby has is to sell Libby to all retiries over 60,no children because Libby will continue to kill people as long as people continue to move to Libby.This deadly exposure will continue long after we are all gone.When one tree contains 530 million deadly Tremolite fibers in one gram of bark,and you imagine what that one tree contains in deadly Tremolite asbestos,one can only imagine the magnatude of what still exists for the people to inhale/swallow,resulting in sickness and death.I am trying to end this deadly known exposure to any other human being because no one should ever have to live and die from Tremolite asbestos.No One.Specially when it is your entire family.I put human beings first.Not the existence of Libby for which Libby continues to kill people/families from the lies being told that Libby is safe to live and raise a family.How can any of you people even believe Libby to be safe enough to allow innocent people to move there.The SAME things will happen to them that has happened to you from moving to Libby and not being warned/informed/protected from something we all know now,kills you.Environmentally friendly???What you ment to say was Environmentally DEADLY.Nothing friendly about suffering and dying from breathing Libby's deadly air.Nothing friendly about lieing to folks knowing those lies will kill them.Libby is not safe and human beings must be made aware of the truth.After all,Libby is all about...life and death and saving those we leave behind....our children.Why is this so hard for you people to understand.Stop listening to EPA lies.Find out for yourself,the truth.You could just listen to me cuz I sure as hell won't lie to anyone about Libby.

Boy I love the suggestion of a part 2. Call it "Libby, Montana - Libby is Back". Having been to Libby several times in the past 20+ years. You can feel the renaissance taking hold of the community. With just about all of the asbestos cleaned up in the next few years - Libby is positioned to become the "next best place in Montana" . Welcome back Libby- its been a long hard climb back.

I remember seeing the movie a few years ago in college. Its good to hear that its getting cleaned up. I remember that Mike Grill guy in the movie. He was the guy at the end holding up the "scuba or God" sign and quoting Bob Dylan I think.

Long ways to go before Libby will ever be the last best place for anything that breathe.What the hells so great about breathing the air in Libby and suffer and die from exposure to Tremolite asbestos.Libby is the last/most deadliest place in this country for any human to breathe in.Libby kills you.

Im not a lawyer but I think you may have a case against the people who made the movie. Just my option. I got to believe they are bringing in the big bucks on the movie. I hope you were paid well.

Naomie, Hi. I was diagnosed with asbestos way before I got on that roof for a hand full of the deadly stuff.Many folks ask why I exposed myself to such deadly levels of Tremolite asbestos in that movie and I just say,nothing will harm me any more than it has already. I truely Naomie,Doug and Dru are sooooo awsome to do waht they did for sooooo many for soooo long, to save thousands/millions of people from moving to Libby Mt.The truth...I am very thankful for this Documentry and a EMMY is just in what the film is all about.I haven't taken a dime and will not.Just being a part of this magnificant film is payment enough.After all,since 1999,I have continued to try to end this deadly exposure on new people/families.Since 1999,Libby has continued to be sold as safe.I hope ALL who view this film will ask/demand why are people still being killed in Libby Mt???Another great Documentry to mention is Dust to Dust by Michael Brown Production.Also EMMY material......Take care.....
