Missoula County: Vote Early

By Matthew Frank, 5-27-08

This note from the Missoula County Elections Office just came in:

“There are only four days left avoid the rush and cast an absentee ballot. Otherwise, you’ll need to visit your polling place on Primary Election Day, June 3rd. To accommodate as many voters as possible Vickie Zeier, Missoula County Elections Administrator has extended the elections’ office hours from 7:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. through the end of this week. Next Monday, June 2nd, you can cast an absentee ballot from 7:30 a.m. to 12 noon. Zeier expects record turnout for this year’s primary, which means polling places will be busy.

Contact the Missoula County Elections office at 258-4751 to learn more about voting absentee.”

I know a lot of people who haven't received their early vote ballots in the mail. The elections office needs to get it together... What's so hard about doing a bigger bulk mailing?
Thanks for the comment, this can be confusing.

The Missoula County Elections Office has mailed absentee ballots to every voter in Missoula County that requested an absentee ballot. In other words, they have mailed to 100% of the voters who have requested absentee ballots, i.e., they will mail absentee ballots today to the voters who requested absentee ballots today. If you haven’t received your ballot, one of the following three scenarios could apply:
1. The State of Montana requires each County Elections Office to confirm twice per year each voters' address and their desire to vote absentee. If a voter did not return that document confirming that information, the voter is not mailed an absentee ballot.
2. Voters who have moved and not updated their voter registration information will have ballots mailed to their previous address. The U.S. Post Office is not permitted to forward ballots. When you change your address, you must update your voter registration information. If you believe your mailing address has changed, please update your voter registration by contacting the Missoula County Elections Office at 258-4751.
3. Your ballot may have been lost in the mail.

The Elections Office has, as of today, mailed approximately 9,600 absentee ballots. Approximately 5,200 ballots have been voted and returned. If you feel you should have received an absentee ballot and have not, please call the Elections’ Office so they can assist you!
