A royal crowd of kings and queens took to the stage at Dauphine’s on Saturday night as part of Missoula’s second annual Panty Rock Drag Show, a fundraiser for the University of Montana’s Women’s Center. The benefit—featuring DJs Mora Cass, Dave and Everno—included thirteen drag show performances, a panty auction, a date auction and no small amount of attitude.

Sixty pairs of handmade panties—ranging from the classy beer bottle cap model to the heavy woolen knit variety—were auctioned off silently, while local celebrity Miss Gay Missoula, event organizer Megan Fisher (who sold for an impressive $124) and others sent audience members into a bidding frenzy during the date auction. Winning bidders received a $20 gift certificate to Dauphine’s.

The fundraiser netted enough money to help cover production costs for the Vagina Monologues, scheduled to show February 14 and 15 at the Montana Theater at 7 p.m. Additional proceeds will go to a yet-to-be-determined women’s organization, although Fisher hints that both Montana Women Vote and the YWCA are likely recipients.

With this year’s Panty Rock Drag Show barely behind her, organizer Megan Fisher already has plans for next year’s event. “It’s a lot of work,” she says, but, “It’s such a great feeling to have so many people come together for such a good cause.”
