Ralph Nader Qualifies For Montana Ballot

Secretary of State Brad Johnson announced today that supporters of Ralph Nader gathered enough signatures for him to qualify as an independent Presidential candidate in Montana’s primary election. Nader was nominated with Vice-Presidential candidate Matt Gonzalez.

Johnson said, “Many candidates are a sign of a healthy democracy. Montanans can look forward to diverse options when they vote this fall, and that’s a good thing.”

Independent candidates for President can qualify for the ballot by gathering signatures on a petition for nomination. The petition must have the signatures of electors equal to 5% or more of the total votes cast for the successful candidate for governor at the last general election or 5,000 electors, whichever is less. This election cycle, 5,000 petition signatures are required

Such petitions were required to be delivered to county election offices by August 13, and counties must deliver them to the Secretary of State’s office by August 20. As of August 14, Nader and Gonzales supporters had turned in 6,604 signatures.

A sign of a healthy democracy and sign that Ralph Nadar and his supporters love to see Republicans in office. Give it a rest, Ralph.

That's cute. That somebody would still think a vote for Nader is a vote for McCain. It's interesting that these people neglect to acknowledge that both the Libertarians and the Constitution Party are both on the ballot this fall and BOTH those parties draw from traditional republican voters. Especially in a state like Montana. Ralph Nader is one of the few people who still stands for democracy in this country and is the only candidate with a track record of doing anything good for the electorate. If each person in this country would vote their mind and select a candidate that represents them rather than voting for the lesser of two evils, we wouldn't live in such a disgraced nation.
