Not mentioned here are all the Climateworks grants, and Energy, funding "inoculation" to prevent plants from being built through litigation and astroturf. T'weren't for that money, there wouldn't be any controversy.

Excuse me, but how is coal clean? Even if you could sequester carbon, it emits mercury, carcinogens, requires much water, emits other greenhouse gases, leaves us with coal ash waste piles, and drives the blowing-up of our mountain tops ruining waterways and farmland. But the fact is you can't sequester carbon. Just look at the recent leaks in the underground carbon sequestration test in Canada. "Coal coal" will never happen. It's just a greenwash for coal to try to avoid being painted as the huge carbon producer that it is, and always shall be.

Nuclear energy is equally a pipe dream, with its multi-thousand year wastes, imported uranium, and susceptibility to terrorism.

And both coal and uranium fail on the very basic economic analysis--they are much more expensive than energy efficiency or wind, and solar power costs are dropping rapidly. Coal and nukes are dead in the water.

Attempts to foster coal and nuclear under the "green energy" label is another ploy to re-label non-renewable technologies and ooze them into a ‘clean’ brand.
