Senators, congressmen and other leaders from throughout the Rockies took to Twitter, Facebook and email last night as President Obama announced al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden had been killed in Pakistan. Here’s a sample of their reactions to the conclusion of a manhunt that continued for nearly 10 years after the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks:

Utah Congressman Jason Chaffetz on Twitter: “The USA is about justice. This is justice. Thanks to the ongoing and tenacious pursuit by the US military and intelligence services!”

Colorado Senator Mark Udall on Twitter: “Remembering the 1000s of US men and women who fought and died to defeat terrorists led by bin Laden who attacked us 9/11/2001. ... Bin Laden’s death is a major milestone in U.S. fight against terror. I salute our brave service members and our president.”

Idaho Senator James Risch on his website: “Today is a day that brings some closure for the victims of the September 11th attacks, the American people and those who have suffered from terrorism around the world. For nearly 10 years capturing Osama Bin Laden has been our number one objective.  The dedication and persistence the U.S. military and intelligence community have shown in accomplishing this deserves our praise and gratitude.”

Montana Senator Jon Tester on Facebook: “America’s troops and intelligence agents have sacrificed and given precious lives in the long hunt for Osama bin Laden, and tonight our forces have delivered justice to the entire world.  I proudly stand with all Montanans to say thank you – and job well done – to all who have dedicated their lives to stamping out bin Laden and the absolute evil he stood for.”
