That's a low blow and you know it.
Next time Burns tours the state, we'll do a brief on it so folks can go see him speak as well. That's all this is.
If someone running for office comes to Missoula, it's a story. It's worth us telling our readers so they can get out to see the candidate themselves and make their own decisions. Would you suggest we NOT tell our readers where the candidates are speaking? Should we just ignore announcements like this? Wouldn't it be a disservice to our readers to ignore covering a candidate's wherabouts just because it might look like we're supporting him or her if we do? If we were to post Conrad Burns' schedule for his next state-wide tour would you suspect we were all Burns supporters?
Just because we posted a story about the Rolling Stones coming to town today, it doesn't mean we're all Rolling Stones fans or that if say, the Who was coming to Missoula, we wouldn't let our readers know that as well. (And, even provide links to places where they could buy tickets, mind you.)
Not that either Tester or Burns are rock stars ... but you get my meaning ;)
The bottom line is I'm rather offended by your comment. We're always willing to admit where our biases lie (which very few other media outlets do) and for you to insinuate that we're somehow hiding a bias in the form of reporting a candidate's whearabouts is hurtful and disingenous. If you're attempting to bait me on this, you've succeeded.

I suggest you take your "It was so hot that the robins were using potholders to gather worms" and enter it in the How Hot are You? T-shirt contest (http://www.newwest.net/index.php/main/article/10194/).
If a news search of Jon Tester is done, not many articles either on the national or state press level do anything other than praise him. Yet, the DSCC has now given over $500000 to his election effort. It is my opinion that Schumer is not providing those funds so that Jon Tester can run maverick. How many journalists question how this may corrupt his Montana heart when he’s asked to render services for the investment? Jon Tester has lived a lifetime in Montana but has no stated position on Montana coal development like Senator Burns or Governor Schweitzer. How many journalists are pressing Tester to cough up his position, as 71% of Montanans want coal development? I can’t find any!
Putting both men to answer hard questions is how Montana wins when their characters and visions are revealed, and their COMMITMENTS are recorded.

Burns hosts barbecue for supporters at fort
By SEAN BRESLIN for the Missoulian
Republican Sen. Conrad Burns campaigned in Missoula on Sunday, lobbing attacks at Democrats while hosting a barbecue for his supporters.
“The Democrats aren't offering anything new,” Burns said. “They just block what the Republicans want to do.”
Burns spoke to about 100 supporters as they dined on hamburgers and hot dogs at Fort Missoula. He remembered Cpl. Phillip Baucus, Democratic Sen. Max Baucus' nephew, who was recently killed in Iraq, as he discussed the need for continued support for the war on terror.

Perhaps I missed it, but I have not seen any New West article alerting people to this event or even reporting on it.
Here it is:

I don't mean to make excuses, but frankly, I was driving my grandmother back from her grandson's wedding in Utah on Sunday and Matt (the only other reporter in the house) was busy covering fires. So, we got to it as soon as we could.
