Real Estate and Development in the Northern Rockies

The Future of Historical Redevelopment in Butte

The walls and streets of Butte tell an amazing tale of Western architectural history, and can also tell a tale of what’s to come.

NewWest.Net’s upcoming Real Estate and Development in the Northern Rockies conference will be touring Butte as part of the pre-conference tours, but from the perspective of looking forward instead of looking back.

Join this tour that will give you insight into the redevelopment potential of Butte with expert commentary from local developers, local historians and Butte’s historical preservation office.

This tour is unique in seeing both the restored and the renovated, along with the largely abandoned. What to do with the preserved, yet vacant buildings? How does business and redevelopment worked together towards revitalizing each other.

There will be a driving tour with local historian and vernacular expert, Dick Gibson, to weave the tale of Butte through its buildings and architecture.

There will then be a short walking in Uptown Butte, to illustrate the new and growing role of cultural history in tourism. And to investigate what incentives and plans the city of Butte has in store for historical redevelopment.

The tour will continue to one of Butte’s landmark buildings, the Metals Bank, for a hosted lunch with developer Ron Ueland, who will discussing his investment in Butte, the future he sees and the treasures and challenges of historic redevelopment of Butte. It will conclude with an in-depth tour of the eight-story building, complete with offices, condos and businesses.

This tour includes transportation from Missoula to Butte and lunch. It departs at 8am and returns at 4pm in time for the evening Keynote and social.
