Wife Of Oregon Football Coach Goes On Verbal Tirade

By Joseph Friedrichs, 10-30-07

Off to a 7-1 start and ranked number four in the AP poll, the Oregon Ducks football team is on track for one of the finest seasons in school history. And despite some off-the-field trouble from several of the athletes, the Ducks have nothing to be ashamed of as a unit. Well, until Saturday anyhow.

What brought embarrassment to the football team, and the University of Oregon as a school, came from the antics of coach Mike Bellotti’s wife. Upset with Oregonian writer John Canzano’s column that reported the two DUII’s her son got, Colleen Bellotti unleashed her rage during Saturday’s game in Eugene against USC.

The tirade included about as much swearing as was said on the field between the Pac-10 rivals and included threats of violence. Canzano reported that Colleen also stank of booze.

The encounter was such a spectacle that security was called and remained with Canzano for the rest of the game as a precautionary measure.

Click here to read Canzano’s account of the story. It’s bizarre. It’s troubling. And it makes me feel glad I’m not married to Colleen Bellotti.
