The desert is a harsh place. This dead cow is decomposing about 50 feet from the border fence. Hundreds of border crossers have been found dead in the border area from Douglas, Ariz., west to Yuma. Bodies have been found as far as 100 miles north of the border. During some years the number of border crossers who die in the desert climbs close to 300 -- and those are the ones whose remains are discovered.
