KICK IN THE SEAT
Gov. Huntsman Plans Special Session After November Elections To Finalize Four-seat Plan
By Tracy Medley, 9-28-06
Utah’s bid for a fourth congressional seat will be up for discussion at a special legislative session in November. Gov. Huntsman announced Thursday that legislators will meet to approve a redistricting map adding a fourth congressional district.
Huntsman’s four-seat plan is not without political slant. After a failed attempt in 2001 by the GOP to edge Matheson out of his seat and in the spirit of fair play they have decided on a kinder, gentler type of “gerrymandering” this time around: assuring the fourth seat for the GOP by lumping the majority of Utah’s Democrats into Matheson’s seat.
Once the new map is approved it will go before the Judiciary Committee of the House of Representatives in Washington.
