Middleton Family Gets ‘Extreme Makeover: Home Edition’
By J. Gelband, 7-11-07
There’s no business like show business. Just look to the Stockdale family of Middleton to verify that.
The family from the mostly-rural community just outside of Boise has been chosen by Ty Pennington and the ABC television show “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” to receive a complete home makeover.
The family was surprised on Wednesday morning when Pennington, the show’s team leader, and the other designers presented the family with their famous “good morning” wake-up call, news that the show’s crew will transform their current home into a dream house in just seven days.
Ryan Stockdale, a 26-year-old Boise State University student majoring in biology, and his wife, Karia, have four children, all of whom suffer from a rare medical condition known as eosinophilic enteropathy. It is a white blood cell disease that attacks proteins and prevents the ingestion and digestion of food and also affects and causes disease of the lungs, kidneys, blood, intestines, and immune system.
Ryan also has problems with his health; he was diagnosed with migraine glaucoma and has undergone multiple brain scans and spinal taps in an attempt to treat his problem.
The family has had a lot to deal with. Consequently, the home of the high school sweethearts and their children has fallen into disrepair and the condition of the home exacerbates the children’s illnesses.
The TV show is working with CBH Homes and their building partners to donate all the time and materials required to build the Stockdale’s new home that will be specifically designed to consider and accommodate the children’s rare medical condition. The home will be built within the week and ready for the Stockdales on July 18.
Meanwhile, the family will be on vacation in Philadelphia. They move out on Thursday, the demolition crew levels the home on Friday, and the first day of construction begins Saturday at 7 a.m.
Other community partners, agencies, local companies, and individuals have already signed up to help with the huge project – and more volunteers are still needed to work day and night through the summer heat.
Volunteers need not have homebuilding skills or construction experience; the people at CBH Homes suggest that simply coming by with ice and sunscreen for workers would be appreciated.
To volunteer, visit the CBH Homes web site. And throughut the homebuilding process, go to CBH Homes’ Give Central for photos, blogs, news and updates, and details about the family.
The episode, “Stockdale Family,” will air on ABC during the 2007-2008 season.

I could only stay for four hours because I babysit
my grandchildren. I worked in bin city thats away from the
house being built. I would love to have my shirt signed
by the stars. I didn't get to see any of them.
Thank you

Man, people that continue to breed keep getting more benefits. I'd like a free house, but unfortunately, I have to work for everything I have. I guess I'll have to start breeding.
