Singing The Warm Winter Blues

It is raining on the mountains of Idaho.
It is foggier than usual in Boise.
The snowpack is turning to rotten mush.
In other words, it's the Winter Solstice, and winter has gone missing.
First, the bummerest of the news, from the Idaho Statesman: Rain at Bogus Basin, our local ski hill.
Second, the spookiest of news, from the Sawtooth Avalanche Center: warm weather makes for sketchy backcountry.
It's put in perspective by the Idaho Mountain Express, which informs readers that, safe or not, the skiing in the backcountry is pretty nasty anyhow.
For those of us who are injured and can't ski anyhow, it's cold, soggy comfort. But it's something.
