Immigration Debate Hits Center Stage

With the U.S. Senate slated to debate immigration reform next week, President Bush is struggling to maintain Republican support for his guest worker proposal. The president on Thursday met with supporters of the idea, including Denver Roman Catholic Archbishop Charles Chaput, but among Republicans the shriller voices - led by Colorado Rep. Tom Tancredo - calling for stiff measures against illegal immigration are increasingly dominating the discussion.

Colorado and Arizona researchers say global warming could cause a far more dramatic rise in sea levels than durrently anticipated, reports the Rocky Mountain News. Polar icepacks are evidently far more vulnerable to warmer temperatures than many scientists had thought.
