Blogger’s Delight: YearlyKos Rolls In Chicago
By Greg Lemon, 8-04-07
Political bloggers and web-based journalists are gathering in Chicago this weekend for the second annual YearlyKos. The event has drawn attention from all the leading Democratic Presidential candidates, including Clinton, Obama and Edwards.
Sponsored by the left-leaning political site, Daily Kos , the event is geared not only to discuss politics, but the growing influence of Web-based media and bloggers. Festivities kicked off on Thursday and run through Saturday night.
The center event of the convention was a Democratic canidate forum on Saturday. Prior to the forum, Clinton at a Q&A session and Obama and Edwards both hosted their own afterward. To keep up to speed, the Daily Kos is posting live blogging from both forums and the YearlyKos convention site is also trying to keep those not in attendance updated on the haps.
Daily Kos contributor, thsisnotanexit, had a good run down of Edward’s forum. Edwards took on public campaign financing as well as universal healthcare. He even seemed to stand firm when the crowd “hissed and booed” when he said he supported the death penalty.
Kos contributor, ahoppin, had a rather cryptic wrap up of the presidential forum. Keep checking at both the YearlyKos and Daily Kos sites. They seem to be the most current.
Interestingly, several prominent Democrats were scheduled to be there, but cancelled due to Congress being in session this weekend to wrap up business before the August recess. Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, and Rahm Emanuel all had to cancel.
Live feeds are available through the YearlyKos Web site, and bloggers are frantically keeping those not in attendance up to speed on what people are say and what’s going down at the event.
