Mamas don't let your babies grow up to wear girl pants
Salt Lake’s ABC Channel 4 News Gets Emo
By Tracy Medley, 5-23-07
Salt Lake City’s ABC Channel 4 News recently blew the lid off Utah’s “emo” kids with an “investigative” report that can only be described as the silliest bit of local pseudo-journalism ever to find its way on television – and that’s saying a lot.
Reed Cowan, who delivered the report, confesses to beginning his search for emo – on the Internet. Well, that was his first mistake. His second was not having a sense of humor. The majority of the supposedly “disturbing” Youtube videos shown throughout the segments are obviously satire – they’re jokes, y’all. Are you really so old and square that you believe that “Emo Quiz” you found is real? Do you really think these are the kind of “girl pants” emo dudes are wearing? If so, I have serious questions about your ability to deliver and disseminate information to the public.
I mean, do you honestly think there’s such a thing as an “advanced emo?” Gah! This kind of “freak out the folks” type of journalism really boggles the mind. Not only is it uniformed and alarmist, but also it’s also completely unoriginal. A quick search on Youtube reveals dozens of reports just like this one across the globe. Way to go, Channel 4. Here you are telling parents if their kids have black hair and listen to cranky music, they’re probably cutting themselves and contemplating suicide; while at the same time urging them not to react to their kid’s emo-ness with fear. Um, okay...so which is it? Should I check under their gummy bracelets for cutting scars or not, Cowan?
Hopefully Channel 4 will tackle those pesky beatniks and their dangerous bongos next.
Kids, hide your eyeliner, mom watched the news.

Silliness.
I'm rly worried about the Tanner kid. Any news on that?
All it's supposed to mean is emotionaly disturbed, or to do everything according to your emotions. It's just a style, every one lables emos as people who cut themselves. The truth is not many realy do. The ones who do have serious problems, and I think they need to see a counciler or something. Iam an emo. And these poeple can be realy fun to be around. And NO they're NOT wrong for wanting to be something different. If you apper different then poeple think you must be some kind of monster. Just because you want to wear make-up when your a guy does that make you gay? NO!
