Free Film Events in SLC

In keeping with an extremely short-lived tradition, I'll only be writing about FREE film events happening around Salt Lake City this week. Why? Because I just love FREE, that's why.

The Lost Media Archive and the Free Form Film Festival are combining efforts again, this time in SLC, to screen numerous works on 8mm film, 16mm film, video and frame-by-frame filmstrip as part of their i>Excavations screening, which they're billing as "an exhibition of unearthed films, videos, records, and other forgotten media". All pieces being screened were either created or collected by Lost Media Archive founders Blair Sterrett and Tyrone Davies. The screening will be held at the No Brow Coffee and Tea Company (315 E. 300 S.) in Salt Lake City on Saturday, January 13th at 7:00pm.

If Saturday's multi-format event isn't enough for you, you can walk on down to the City Library on Tuesday January 16th. That night, at 7:00pm, the City Library will be screening Anti-Semitism in the 21st Century in the main auditorium. The documentary, narrated by broadcast journalist Judy Woodruff, examines why anti-semitism is still a problem for many areas of the globe, including some European countries where many attest that violent attacks against Jews and Jewish institutions have more than doubled since the 1990s.

So, whether your interest is experimental or educational, this week is a good one to take advantage of everything the Salt Lake City film scene has to offer.
