WATCH OUT FOR THE NEW KID ON THE BOAT

Governor’s Cup Walleye Tourney Set

By Bill Schneider, 4-21-08

The 21st running of the Montana Governor’s Cup Walleye Tournament on Fort Peck Reservoir in eastern Montana has been scheduled for July 10-12, according a recent press release sent out by the Glasgow Area Chamber of Commerce & Agriculture.

And there’s a rumor striking fear in the ranks of walleye fishing pros that a rookie tournament angler is coming this year who could threaten their dominance of the event--none other than old Wild Bill from NewWest.Net. Check back in July to see how the amateur does against the pros.

In 2007 tournament anglers caught 466 walleye, and first place winners Mike and Reg Gibbs took home $7,000 with a total two-day weight of 66.72 pounds. The largest walleye caught was 13.69 lbs

The Governor’s Cup pays back 80 percent of the entry fee in cash and prizes and is now a part of the Walleyes Unlimited Montana Walleye Circuit. The entry fee for the two-day event has been lowered from $500 to $400 this year.

The Chamber also announced the sponsors for this year’s event: Nemont, Coca-Cola, Mon Dak Marine/Mercury Motors, Nemont Beverage Corporation, Crestliner, and Newton Motors/Delco Battery.

“The 2008 MT Governor’s Cup Walleye Tournament is the premier walleye tournament in Montana,” says the Chamber. “This year’s tournament has something for everyone, the Guys & Gals Tournament, Kid’s Fishing, the Friday Fish Fry, a day at the Fort Peck Interpretive Center, and an evening at the Fort Peck Summer Theatre.”
