Skiers and riders enjoyed soft, albeit heavy, turns today at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort, despite the blowing wind and sideways-falling snow.

While the resort closed two lifts early today because of wind, their plan to have the mountain fully operational by the end of the weekend is still a go.

Resort officials announced this afternoon that they will open Sublette Chair on Saturday and the new East Ridge Chair to the summit on Sunday.

In the announcement, officials reported 30 inches of snow recorded this week and described conditions as "incredible early season powder."

"Groomed runs have soft, carvable covering and in the trees it can be thigh deep," media contacts Anna Olson and Greer Terry wrote in the statement. "The combination of powder, uncrowded slopes and early season fitness is resulting in some very happy, tired skiers."

Snow control, wind and other weather may delay the lifts' openings. For updates, visit jacksonhole.com or call the snow phone 307-733-2291.
