Election Night
Montana Primary Yields Surprises in Kelleher, Tight AG Race
By Robert Struckman, 6-03-08
While Sen. Barack Obama won Montana’s presidential support as expected, a few statewide primary contests in the state handed down some primary election surprises.
Probably least surprising were the strong wins posted by Democratic candidate Denise Juneau for the Superintendent of Public Instruction, who will face off against Republican Elaine Sollie Herman. Check out results here.
Mike Wheat and Steve Bullock went down to the wire in a close-fought race for the Democratic candidacy for state Attorney General. As of 11 p.m., Bullock held a 700 vote lead, with more than 75,000 Democratic ballots cast. The winner will challenge Republican Tim Fox. See AG results here.
But Bob Kelleher? Well-known for his prodigious eyebrows, Republican Kelleher has been a long-shot candidate in the state for years, although not always for the Republican Party. Most recently, he ran against Democratic Sen. Max Baucus as the Green Party candidate. Kelleher edged five other candidates to face incumbent Baucus this fall, who is running for his sixth term. Results? Here.
Also worth noting is Ron Paul’s poor showing against presumptive Republican nominee John McCain. Paul’s organized, grassroots campaign in the state fell short, handing him only about 20 percent of the vote. Click here for results.
Democratic candidate John Driscoll (no Web site) pulled off an underdog win against Jim Hunt for the right to run against incumbent Republican Rep. Denny Rehberg in November. Click here for the latest.
Maybe you’re jones-ing for other numbers. Check out the whole slate right here.

Despite all that, Paul got 20% of the vote -- imagine what he'd have received if he'd had even half the press coverage (especially had it been even-handed) that McCain got.
Gee, why would any Republican actually want the party to return to traditional Republican values:
* Non-interventionism to end our $trillion foreign policy drain and restore America's good name
* End the income tax and the Fed -- returning America to the low-tax and gold-backed-currency policies that made us rich, and ending the ocean of money now feeding the corporatist agenda
* End the police state -- make Americans safe again by eliminating the TSA and other pseudo-security agencies aimed at controlling Americans, not catching terrorists
Choosing McCain will be the end of the GOP, and possibly the end of America as we know it. The nation can't take much more of our current policies; we're already bankrupt, hated around the world, and losing our middle class.
