Jacksonites join the masses en route ... and rooted

More Stuck Travelers

By Lauren M. Whaley, 12-23-06

My brother won't be home in Baltimore until 11:59 p.m. Monday.

He's stuck in Colorado with the rest of the world, but at least he lives in Boulder. He'll likely spend Christmas Eve drinking, dancing and juggling with his fellow hippies, Buddhists and musicians.

We were both supopsed to be on the east coast by 4 p.m Friday .

I had to reroute away from Denver, too, which only took about an hour on the phone (compared to my brother's four) and two hours in line at the Jackson Hole airport. I'll be traveling through picturesque Cincinnati en route to the even more picturesque Baltimore, MD, where I grew up.

My friend, Melanie has a three-day trip to London Heathrow from Jackson Hole, where she'll be lucky to land in the fog that has engulfed the busy airport. Her brother is stuck in Spain.

My roommate seems to be the only lucky one in the family, as she made it out on the only flight that left Denver International Airport Wednesday morning. I imagine she's blithely enjoying the Yuletide in Massachusetts.

Jackson Hole blogger Jim Stanford relays his personal rerouting story on jhunderground.com. He also shares one one from Jackson Hole News&Guide editor, Angus Thuermer Jr., who has been in Denver since Wednesday, his second time in less than 10 years, stranded in Denver at Christmas.
