Hazed and Infused
By Christie Aschwanden, 4-06-05
This week I'm taking a break from the wine tour to rave about my current favorite beer. It's called Hazed and Infused, and it hails from the Boulder Beer Company. If you are looking for something light and sweet, Hazed and Infused is not for you. This beer is hoppy and happening. And since my local liquor store only carries it in bombers, it always gives me a pleasant buzz. (I'm not one to share a beer).
Hazed and Infused is one of Boulder Beer's limited edition specialty beers produced as part of the Looking Glass series. It's unfiltered (hence the 'hazed') and it is infused with Crystal hops that give it a full-bodied hoppy bite, like an IPA turned up a few notches. Hoppier than an ESB, but also less bitter, Hazed and Infused pours thick and goes down smooth. Its aroma tickles the senses and the hops cling to the nose, giving it a clean finish. If you like Colorado Kind, brewed by the Mountain Sun/Southern Sun, you'll love Hazed and Infused.
On a side note, the Boulder Brewery has a new, old name. The Business began life as the Boulder Brewery, but in 1993 they had changed their name to the Rockies Brewery. "We wanted to expand out of the Colorado market, thinking Boulder was a little too pronounced, and use a name that was selling into a region," brewmaster David Zuckerman told the Daily Camera. "And we were wrong." So the Boulder Beer name is back.
Back in the mid-1990's, I worked at a biotech company next door to the Boulder/Rockies Brewpub and spent many a lunch hour sampling their beer. I never cared for the name Rockies Brewery, it seemed too generic. But honestly, I don't give a hoot what brewery calls themselves, I'd just like to see them ship some 12-packs of Hazed and Infused to Mesa Liquors.
