Rocky and Hannity Debate at Kingsbury Hall
By Tracy Medley, 5-03-07
Ding! Ding! The fight is on between Salt Lake City Mayor, liberal cause-celeb Rocky Anderson and right-wing-broken record Sean Hannity. Friday night, the two will verbally duke it out at the University of Utah’s Kingsbury Hall in front of a sold out audience…for charity (awwww).
Just so we’re clear – Kingsbury Hall seats around 2000 people and it sold out - in a matter of minutes. I have to say, that’s a lot of butts filling a lot of seats just to see a local hero/villain debate a mildly celebrated Fox News “haircut.”
So, why are Salt Lakers so eager to see these two harpies go at it like kittens in a pillow case? Good question. The most logical answer is that everyone likes to see a good fight – and with these two, it should be epic. Rocky and Hannity are beacons of Salt Lake’s polarized sense of politics and community. Each represent a hyper-realized caricature of not only American right-wing and left-wing, but specifically Utah’s right and left wings. It’s a lot like that one episode of South Park when Robert Smith of the Cure morphs into a mega-moth to fight Mecha-Streisand and save South Park.
Well, isn’t it?
There should be plenty of ribald remarks and rank repartee as these two hash out their usual schtick for the amusement of all.
The event will be broadcast live on Fox 13 and KSL Newsradio.
