Talking Gourds Spoken Word Festival in Telluride – April 21-23rd

By Tonya Poole, 3-17-06

Ahh, Telluride in spring. Soaring peaks. Lush, green valleys. Rich, cobalt skies. Wild poets wandering the streets...

The Telluride Writer's Guild and the Ah Haa School of the Arts present this 17-year Western Slope tradition at the historic Sheriden Opera House and other locations around Telluride, Colorado. Participate in a little spring rejuvenation with high-energy performances and inspiring workshops throughout the festival, including regional poets and storytellers, singers, actors, dancers, writers and wanderers sharing their exciting, sublime and sometimes provocative work in a variety of venues.

Aligned with Earth Day and National Poetry Month, activities will include writing workshops, lectures, conversations and interactives like Michael Cohen's “Ecopoetics” and Danny Rosen's “Night Skies”. Check out a sneak peek at some of what's on tap:

Friday, April 21st
4pm: The Mark Fischer Award and Opening Show
8pm: The Word Show, featuring (among others!) Zoey Benally from the Navajo Nation

Saturday, April 22nd
Noon: “Eat Our Words”, a free lunchtime show. Bring your own lunch!
8pm: Mother Earth Show, followed by Open Mic Night at the Sheriden

Sunday, April 23rd
10am: Potluck brunch Gourd Circle

Performances are $10 each, interactives are $15. Sunday's brunch is $25. Feeling frisky? See all the festival has to offer by purchasing an all-event ticket for $80 before April 1st, $90 before April 15th, or $105 at the door.
