The Men They Like Boise

By Shea Andersen, 3-16-06

People love to love and hate the "best places to live" lists that pop up on magazine covers. If your fair city is one of the best, you have two acceptable reactions: forward it to everyone you know, and commence with the braggadacio. Or, wait in silent, grim hope that someone from another town will mention it to you. Feign nonchalance, which curdles into resentment at someone else discovering what you discovered.

And then rush out to buy the darn magazine and see if they're really right.

So if that's the case, we all oughtta be scanning the newsstands for Men's Journal this month, which features "50 Best Places to Live." Myself, I'm going to let that one sit on the rack for a while. The last thing my wife needs is a pinup cover shot of surfer/hunk Laird Hamilton reminding her that she's not married to a weightlifting beach bum.

But if you're in Idaho, you may as well know: Boise, McCall, Sandpoint and Last Chance, Idaho are all on the list. Boise is a "friendly, bike-mad place" with "lots of green space, cheap real estate and a river flowing through town." Thanks to subscriber Roger Phillips for the quick read.
