Non-Concerns

Things We Don’t Need to Worry About

By Matt Singer, 5-11-05

I often hear that both environmentalists and the media are too shrill. Since I'm apparently part of the environmental media, I imagine that I'm probably super-shrill. So, to remedy that situation, I wanted to present a few things that it seems we don't need to be concerned about right now.

  1. Mercury in fish in Utah. It seems that mercury testing in Utah has shown few enough fish over levels to warrant a federal fish advisory. That's good news. Pregnant women may still want to be careful, but that's always good advice (sorry, had to be a bit shrill).

  2. The Drought. I haven't heard anything about this for a while. That may be because here in Missoula we've been getting precipitation regularly and the Clark Fork is running high. That'll be good for those Idaho farmers we were worried about recently. (Another shrill sidenote: this is not true in Austria. Oh, and something still needs to be done about water management on the Missouri.

  3. Love Canal. It is being returned to productive uses.

Any other nominees?
