The Kingfisher Fly Shop’s 5-River Fishing Report

Bitterroot

5/2/2006

REPORTS: Yep, you can see it now. The river has begun to drop on the upper end and is now beginning to continue to stop being an unstoppable force of good fishing opportunity right now and on into the forseeable furture starting right now. You should begin to immediately start the process of stopping to consider being up here.

Blackfoot

05/2/2006

REPORTS: Oh no, you see, veddy veddy bat por pishing. Veddy bat.

Clark Fork

5/2/2006

REPORTS: It was a dark and stormy night when somebody got up and said, "why don't we fish the Clark Fork tomorrow?". Everyone else in the room rightly got up and left, pointing and laughing as they went. Shadows hung in the room like velvet curtains and the silence was deafening as the realization slowly settled upon him that he and his Realdoll could still go. "Dammit, I WILL!", he said to himself, and he did. You could too . . . if you really thought you should.

Missouri

5/2/2006

REPORTS: Looks like wind hell today. Don't think I'd go. Been mostly a nymph deal lately but the nymping's getting better every day. There are lots of baetis riverwide, but very few fish up and eating 'em. It'll be tough duty on the Mo today. If you do go, red paleminos in a size 18 have been THE goods for us lately. The wind will beat you with your own diaper today.

Rock Creek

5/2/2006

REPORTS: Got boat? You'll need it from here on out through the end of high water to get your best shots at the slippery critters. Look for a typical Rock Creek runoff/salmonfly season with 3 days of good conditions, 2 days of bad, 4 days good, 4 days bad, etc... Somewhat stable water levels (at any level) and even marginal clarity will be the key when the big bugs start hatching this month. This river can be WAY dangerous when the flows get going, so make sure you bring your A game floating or wading. Hit the mid to lower river from a boat and use yellow bunny junk if you're headed out this way today. It won't be red hot but you'll tag a few.
