U Counseling Center Offers Support to Students

Monday’s horrific shooting at Virginia Tech strikes a particular chord here in Salt Lake City. It was only two months ago that we experienced our own terrible act of random, mass violence when Sulejman Talovic gunned down ten people in the Trolley Square mall, killing six. With that event so fresh in our minds and hearts we offer our deepest sympathy and empathy to those suffering now in the Blacksburg.

Within hours of the killings at Virginia Tech, University of Utah President Michael Young issued a statement expressing the university’s condolences to the victims and their families and promised support for University of Utah students, faculty and staff at the U’s Counseling Center.  “The University of Utah’s Public Safety office and the administration will be closely monitoring this situation to understand better what happened to determine what we can learn from this tragic event to aid our ongoing efforts to promote campus safety,” Young said in an email.
