Your Quick & Dirty Guide to Summer Festivities

Missoula is a literal smorgasboard for summer events, festivals concerts and the likes. Whether you're floating the Blackfoot with a beer, strolling the market with a canvas bag and a coffee or heading out of town for a killer concert at the Gorge (of the Washington variety) or some killer waves in the Alberton Gorge, Missoula is a great place to be during the summer. But, we know all these offerings can be confusing when it comes to trying to plan a summer, so never fear, we've done your homework for you -- we can show you which events are the absolute "don't misses." Read on to get the goods on the summer schedule and if you've got your own recommendations, don't hesitate to share.

Sasquatch! Music Festival

Not quite Flathead Lake, but this Memorial Day music festival brings together enough bands to make everyone happy. From Modest Mouse, the Pixies or Wilco to hip hop album of the year winner Kanye West.

Hundreds of kayaker's compete down some of Montana's toughest whitewater known as the "Wild Mile" of the Swan River.

Widespread Panic

This southern rock band kicks off the Big Sky Ampitheater's Summer Concert Series. Opening acts include Missoula's own Signal Path and DJ Logic. 5:45 p.m.

Discover Traveler's Rest

A 4-day event commemorating the Lewis and Clark visit to the Missoula area at the new Traveler's Rest State Park in Lolo. It will kickoff with a reenactment of their arrival and continue with plenty of fun for the whole family.

Out to Lunch

Take a long lunch break and soak up some sun this summer. Out to Lunch features many of Missoula's eateries and live music in Caras Park. 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m.

Downtown ToNight

A great way to unwind after a day of work. Bring out family and friends for music, beer, food and family activities on the Clark Fork in Caras Park. 5:30-8:30 p.m.

Saturdays throughout the Summer

Missoula Farmer's Market

Get out and enjoy your Saturday mornings by gathering fresh produce and supporting local farmers. By the X's downtown from 9 a.m-noon. Also check out the arts and crafts fair down the street on East Pine.

First Friday of each month

First Friday Gallery Walk

Missoula has a strong art community, so why not wander the downtown area galleries, which offer new art exhibits on the first friday of each month beginning from 5-8 p.m. Many galleries offer food and wine as an addded bonus.
