My Page: Tawnya Mosier
Wherever there are free films yearning to be seen, Ma, I'll be there
John Steinbeck Film FestivalThe Salt Lake City Film Center will be screening film versions of five classic John Steinbeck novels this weekend at the Salt Lake City Public Library's downtown location. All screenings will be held in the main auditorium and are free and open to the public. If you haven't seen these films before or have only caught them on the small screen, you should definitely try to catch as many as possible for...you guessed it...FREE!
Although all five films are excellent adaptations of the original novels, The Grapes of Wrath stands out in my mind as a particularly tight, poetic piece of filmmaking (as well as proof that once upon a very very long time ago...there was actually a Fonda who could act very very well).

Baby, if I buy you dinner, will you put OUT/EX?
New Fringe Film Series in SLCOK. Get ready folks, because what I'm about to tell you is pretty cool.
A new monthly film series is beginning this Saturday, February 17th at 7:30pm at Nobrow Tea and Coffee Company (315 East 300 South) in Salt Lake City. The series is titled OUT/EX because each monthly screening will alternate between showing OUTsider and EXperimental films from around the world. Get it?
Anyway, OUT/EX is actually the brainchild of Loaf-I Productions and The Lost Media Archive and will be presented in collaboration with The Pickle Company. The idea is to bring fringe film to Utah residents each 3rd Saturday of every month as well as to get local filmmakers to submit their own work. In fact, the series will end with a final award show in February of 2008 with a $500 award going to the best film of the series. The winner will be chosen by audiences as well as a panel of industry professionals.

Free Films A-Go-GO
Free Film Events in SLCIn keeping with an extremely short-lived tradition, I'll only be writing about FREE film events happening around Salt Lake City this week. Why? Because I just love FREE, that's why.
The Lost Media Archive and the Free Form Film Festival are combining efforts again, this time in SLC, to screen numerous works on 8mm film, 16mm film, video and frame-by-frame filmstrip as part of their i>Excavations screening, which they're billing as "an exhibition of unearthed films, videos, records, and other forgotten media". All pieces being screened were either created or collected by Lost Media Archive founders Blair Sterrett and Tyrone Davies. The screening will be held at the No Brow Coffee and Tea Company (315 E. 300 S.) in Salt Lake City on Saturday, January 13th at 7:00pm.
