The World So Far As I Know It

Currently showing at The Dairy Center for the Arts main gallery is an installation exhibit titled, "The World so Far as I Know it" by artist Antoinette (Toni) Rosato. This exhibit is a collaborative work and commentary on life, death, the hereafter and the artist's experience with cancer. This exhibit has become a memorial to the artist as she passed away last night, 2/22, after a long battle with breast and brain cancer. The Get Down and Boogie Drink

A Red Headed Slut

If anyone ever offers you one, quietly back away and then run screaming for the nearest exit. Now you may think that I’m referring to an actual woman of ill repute but no, I am referring to a newly popular alcoholic beverage found in any dance club, bar and most restaurants on the Front Range.

I had the misfortune of having this drink on Saturday as I celebrated with some girlfriends the upcoming marriage of one of our close friends. Bottoms up ladies! I made it through half my drink before my eyes went cross-eyed. I generously tried to pour the rest of mine into the bride’s drink who proceeded to berate me with, “What do you think I am 22? Forget it girlfriend, you’re on your own with that one. Taking one for the team, I struggled through the rest of it, trying not to dwell on the drink’s taste of moldy Shirley Temple coupled with sticky floorboard and sucked on peppermint candy steeped in catnip. Boulder Does the Red Carpet

2nd Annual Boulder International Film Festival Opening Gala a Huge Success

The madness has begun. Starting with last night's opening gala and premier of "Sisters" starring Maria Bella, Rip Torn, Mary Stuart Masterson and other stars, Boulder's second annual International Film Festival is on it's way. The film festival runs throughout the day and evening through Sunday Feb.19 with films showing at the historic Boulder Theater, Boulder Public Library and Boulder High School. These venues are all within walking distance of each-other. Last year's inaugural festival was attended by 5000 people and the festival organizers are expecting to more than double that amount this year. For a complete listing of the film schedule you can check out their website at www.biff1.com [more]

Art is essential to the human experience

Got Art?

Greetings from Boulder Colorado. This is the beginning of a regular blog from myself about, you guessed it art. Although I'll be waxing on from my own perspective and opinion, I do have the opportunity to be regularly involved in the arts in my daytime job as the director of a community arts center. As is the case for any non-profit director I have the arduous task of raising awareness and money for the cause or charity that I represent. Well-- try defending the need to keep or increase funding for the arts when the local fire department needs a new fire engine or the cutest jumping mouse you've ever seen is endanger of going extinct and its prime habitat just happens to be in your community. It ain't easy. [more]
