Race And Gender Put Before Colorado Voters

This November, Coloradans could face a confusing ballot marred with conflicting questions on how the government should treat our skin color and sex.

Earlier this month, the Colorado Secretary of State's title-setting board approved the language of an initiative that would mandate acceptance of state programs that allow - or encourage - the consideration of an individual's race and sex in hiring, contracting, and admissions decisions. I'm part of a citizen-led coalition dedicated to actively fighting this ill-conceived effort.

Campaign Finance Laws Hurt Grassroots Causes

Campaign finance reform, once billed as a way to mitigate the effect of big money in politics, is having its greatest impact in turning well-intentioned grassroots candidates and campaigns into lawbreakers.

A recent national survey conducted by University of Missouri economics professor Jeffrey Milyo finds extremely troubling trends. According to Milyo, just 41 percent of participants in his national experiment could correctly complete all required campaign finance disclosure forms.

Why Ron Paul Matters

Donating to Ron Paul's presidential bid is like paying homage to that part of you that will never forget what it was like to be the last one picked in third grade kickball. In a country of self-loathing former underdogs, it's no wonder that Paul's long shot campaign for the White House managed to rake in nearly $20 million from eager contributors in the last quarter alone.

At a Friday campaign stop in Denver, the Texas Republican Congressman spoke to a standing room only crowd of 2,000 supporters-nearly double the number that came out earlier in the day to cheer on ordained front-runner Mitt Romney.

A Need For Blonde Republican Activists

I'm starting a new organization for women. It's called Blonde Republican Activists. Would you like to join?

The premise of our group is simple, really. We're tired of liberal men telling us how we feel, or worse yet, should feel. If we get mad enough, we may even start a Web site.

The first topic of discussion for BRAs: The latest attack on our gender autonomy coming from Michael Huttner, executive director of ProgressNow.

Columbus Day Protesters Pushed Infamy Over Free Speech

If radical activists protest a parade and no one gets arrested, did they ever protest at all?

In the aftermath of demonstrations marring Denver's October Columbus Day parade, Denver is again being subjected to a round of jury trials this month for activists arrested after they attempted to block the parade route with a human chain. Under city ordinance, it is illegal to obstruct the street during such a permitted event.

Actions Of Colorado Lawmaker Harmful To Limited Government Movement

On Monday, Colorado state Rep. Douglas Bruce didn't just kick a newspaper photographer. When he refused to apologize, he also launched a blow to his beloved limited government movement. While the first mistake was forgivable, the second is not.

As was widely reported by media around the nation, including USA Today, Bruce became upset after a news photographer crouched before him during the chamber's morning prayer continued to take his picture. He responded by swiftly kicking Rocky Mountain News photographer Javier Manzano in the knee.

Applauding A New Strip Club In Heavily Regulated Boulder

In highly regulated cities like Boulder, Colo., you've got to take freedom where you can find it. And in the process, you may just find yourself cheering on the owner of a sleazy strip club.

Described on the Internet as "edgy, artistic, erotic gentlemen's entertainment," Boulder's newest business establishment, Nitro Club, opened just before Christmas and is raising alarm bells with city officials shocked that that club's owner, Michael Cobb, didn't first give them the opportunity to kill the project.

Animal Cruelty: Are We All Guilty?

Michael Vick, the former NFL star-turned-convict was sentenced to 23 months in federal prison this week for his role in a dog-fighting scheme.

He did a bad thing. Dogs suffered. Children cried. But does he really deserve prison? And if he does, how many of us should be joining him there?

Denver’s Diversity Training Needs To Go

Mean jokes can lead to hurt feelings. But portraying white men as racist, sexist slobs is perfectly acceptable.

This is the message public workers have been subjected to as part of a City of Denver employee-training video titled "Laughing Matters - Think About It." In the eight-minute-piece, the main character is Billy, a white blue-collar worker. He walks around the office making fun of every minority imaginable.

Democrats Struggle With Cost And Benefits Of Domestic Oil Production

Western Democrats are stuck between a rock and a Prius. They want to use booming oil revenues to fund expanded government spending. But saying yes to energy exploration means saying no to the demands of the region's powerful environmental lobby and a national party agenda increasingly resistant to domestic oil-and-gas development.
