Hot Spots
Girls Gone Wild(erness)"Like, o-my god, like, I totally LOVE the University of Montana." Well, at Least Cosmo GIRL does. They named UM-Missoula one of the Top 50 best colleges for girls. Citing class options and other unique qualities such as percentage of peace corp volunteers and adventures in the wilderness as enticing characteristics for future freshmen. I would have to say that COMSO Girl totally, like, is in love with us.
Disappointing though is the fact that UM also has the second lowest average ACT score of a 23 with only Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colo. beating UM out with a wopping 21.
Also, hot news off the Cosmo GIRL site an online poll is showing that 21% of voters feel that the parties will be the best thing about college and that it is Dean, NOT Jess or Luke, that is driving a wedge between Rory and Lorelai on the Gilmore Girls--goddamn Dean!
Regional Protest
Voices of the West! What do you have going on this weekend? If you are just staring at the same walls, why not jump into action? This Saturday students, professors, moms and dads will be in Seattle for the regional protest against the war in Iraq and racism.
This regional rally is part of the national protest in Washington, DC where thousands of people are descending on the steps of our pillars of government to voice their objection to the Bush administrations policies, specifically telling him to bring the troops home, NOW! You can find out more about the rally at the A.N.S.W.E.R. website and also at the United for Peace and Justice website.

Update!
The Education of an UtteranceWith so much response to my last post, How I Almost Got Arrested Last Night I thought that this would be the perfect follow-up on the subject of profanity. In today's New York Times there is an article so fitting I couldn't have planned it better myself. [more]
College Controversy
College Newspaper Fires Controversial WriterWhere does the line between unethical and simply distasteful get drawn in journalism? When radical views are expressed and the public is offended should someone take the blame? Recently this, and as well as many other questions that surround journalism and opinion columns have blasted to the surface at the University of North Carolina college newspaper, The Daily Tar Heel. How I Almost Got Arrested Last NightThis is my first hand account of how I was almost arrested last night for swearing in public. Police intimidation and fear had coupled together to scare me into caving in on my own civil liberties. Click "more" to read the story. [more]
Environment and You
The “New Rule” Under QuestionThings get dicey when Montanans start talking about land. We love it, and guard it ruthlessly. From our wide open spaces to our access of rivers. This debate, the push and pull between industry and envorinmentalists, locals and tourists, has even piqued the interest of the New York Times. [more]
Podcasting
I (heart) Dawn and DrewI need a laugh. When that happens there is only one thing I do: I turn on Dawn and Drew. “Oh, yeah man they are good, what channel are they on again?. Sorry , but they aren’t on TV nor can they be dialed in on the radio.
Instead, they are pod-people. Podcasting their quirky comedy, cut straight from their farm in Wisconsin, out onto the worldwide web. They are young, racy and a huge hit. Oh and they are damned funny too. But, what is that, you don’t know of this “Podcasting thing? Well, start learning fast because this new medium could very well revolutionize communications .

Tech Junkies
I Wanna ROK!Most college kids can talk and walk. But now you can be the ultra-cool, talker, walker and ROKR. That's right the devils at Apple have debuted the iPod-esque device, joining with Motorola to bring us a cell phone with an iTunes library. Now, college kids seem to be the likely target of all things Apple and so it is no different with this. Only problem is, not many people like it. Could this be an iBomb? Inside, I hope so. Many reviews of the product have not been good. Read this one, where the reviewer only gave it only 2 of 5 stars, getting the response, "It's not an iPod, it's a ROKR!" from Motorola customer service when they were having trouble with the iTunes.
Plus, who wants something that only holds 100 songs. That won't even last me through my morning. It was a bummer that the iPod cell phone that was rumored came to this conclusion. FutureMusic.com was thought the phone was a serious disappointment and that is looked like a beer can. Funny, it actually does.
Hip-Hop in Missoula
Atmosphere: Like You’ve Never Seen ThemThere are very few people that can legitimately claim to be underground. But those who have continue to live the life many either gave up on or sold out of. But, to understand the lifestyle of a hip-hop artist living on the fringe, with his lyrics flowing even farther to the margins, you need to forget what you thought you knew, because this is Slug.
