Calling Bush OUT!!
A Hero: Mayor Ray NaginMayor Ray Nagin is actually saying what needs to be said. He is blasting the federal government for their handling of this disaster. Listen to his fiery interview here. This is a politician that is cutting through the murky waters of bureaucracy and is going after the President for his inaction and calling him out. What is going on with our government? As Bush fiddles, Rome burns. [more]
A Total Failure
The Government Has Failed UsWhere is the water? Where is the food? Where is the help? But most importantly where is Bush? The lack of action and coordination by the Federal government is disgusting. Reports are flooding in of governmental mismanagement. These poor people survived the hurricane, they survived the flooding and now when they need help the government lets them die, baking in the streets. Who do you blame? Bush. The leader of the country has failed his citizens. [more]
Survival of New Orleans
Getting The Word OutIf you are at all interested in what is happening in New Orleans, there is a blogger on the inside, writing his posts from the 10th floor of an office building. What is coming out of there is a very real account of what is happening as it happens. Check out this blog here.
There are photos linked up and a truly first hand account of the chaos that is surrounding and people of New Orleans. The blogger is updating very often so you can really feel what is going on. Reading this gave me the most intense feeling of helplessness. Check it out.
A True Patriot!
Why Be President When You Can Play Rockstar? If President Bush really did have a conscience then maybe we wouldn't be in Iraq? If he had at least the inkling of compassion he would be working to help the victims of hurricane Katrina. But he must not, as the Daily Kos pointed out. Here we have our commander in chief strummin' his gee-tar, on Tuesday rather than mobilizing and leading the country. Countless dead in the South, people scrambling for shelter and fresh water, just simply struggling to survive. What does Bush do, he has a hoedown. [more]

Snowboarders Helping StudentsThere is a God, and it comes in the form of a discount. As all of the starving college students begin to assess the damage done to their bank accounts by school expenses, but still look anxiously toward the powdery winter months ahead, a little known snowboard company out of Denver, Colo., comes to the rescue.
Lucid Notion Snowboards is offering 30-40 percent discounts on brand new 05-06 snowboards to college students. It is called the College Buying Program and all you have to do is email them your school ID and the discount is yours. Click here for more info on how you can save money this season.
The Long Haul
Excuse Me Sir, Spare A Dime For My Doctorate? The lengths to which students go to make it to school are astounding. For me the trip is three states long and damn those states are long. From Northeastern Minnesota, I ramble every fall into the car and out onto the open road. An idyllic story of Americana, the eldest off to school. Proud and strong I'm on the highway, Bobby Zimmerman hitting all the right notes as I put rubber to tar. But every 300 miles or so I would breakdown in tears. Was I homesick already? Lonely? Do I have emotional problems? Naw, I have gas problems. [more]
A-B-C's
Forget Four, I Hate Six Letter WordsSchool is a horrible 6 letter word. Worse than grisly or horrid or unholy. Some say the power of language is dead, well not come the end of summer. That one word will shake any extremely tanned, beach going, fun loving person to their core. And as the calendar shifts and we all funnel back to the book trough to throw money at overpriced books and once again back into the world of syllables, synonyms, syllabus and the occasional syllabi, let me tell you that everything will be all right.
So, share your stories and pictures and give yourself a voice, be it funny or serious, angry or sarcastic, if you wanna talk then we will listen.

Gaga for GonzoWhen Hunter S. Thompson killed himself, he might have just made a great career move. In the wake of his death, people have been picking up his writings, stenciling his mantra, and emblazening themselves with Gonzo journalism. Like Hemingway and others, suicide has a way of selling books. [more]
