World Cup Racing in Colorado; B.C.-based Company Touts ‘Green Wax’

The world’s best ski racers may have a chance to sample some Colorado powder after their races in Beaver Creek this weekend, as light to moderate snowfall is expected to continue on and off across the state for the next few days. Up to four inches of fresh fluff were reported Friday morning in the northern and central mountains, with a few more inches expected by the end of the weekend. This season’s World Cup racing includes the super-combined event, one run of slalom and one run of downhill, favoring the most versatile racers. American ace Bode Miller can win in any discipline when he’s at the top of his game. But Miller couldn’t keep it together for the Beaver Creek race, skiing off the course to blow what looked to be a huge lead. The Beaver Creek World Cup event winds up Sunday with a slalom, giving Miller one more chance to score some points on U.S. snow.

With up to three feet of fresh snow in the central Colorado mountains, avalanche forecasters are still concerned about the potential for large slides, the Aspen Times reports. An early season base that started piling up in September and October has turned mostly to faceted sugar snow, a base forecasters likened to a “house of cards,” ready to collapse.

The cold winter powder snow of recent days means skiers and boarders can benefit from a good coat of hard wax. This season, Hillbilly Wax-Works, based in Rossland, B.C., is touting a new line “environmentally friendly” wax that supposedly reduces the various toxins and risks associated with conventional ski wax manufacture use and disposal.
