Have any of these protesters been to Gitmo? If not, what is their source of propaganda?
I ask because there's an interesting story in today's (1/16) New York Post. It's titled "Gitmo's Good Work," and written by Gordon Cicullu, a retired military man who's visited Gitmo 5 times over the last 5 years. (Cicullu may be spinning, but I'm thinkin' the orange jumpsuits, chains and hoods seem pretty unlikely for the vast majority of detainees.)
He says the current facility is modeled after a "Michigan county prison." He says that only about 350 of the original 800 detainees remain; the reset have been sent home or released.
The 350 who continue to be detained? The author says, "Gitmo keeps behind bars bad guys who would inflict terrible pain on America and our friends. From these same men, it gets vital information that has had and continues to have a major positive effect on prosecution of the war - information that has broken up operative cells in America and Europe, stifled recruiting, intercepted money trails and set the terrorists back on their heels." Interesting to note - the detainees are NOT tortured for information-gathering, but rather treated civilly by captors who have established a rapport with them. (One lady bakes 'em chocolate chip cookies.)

I HATE MY COUNTRY AND I FEEL ASHAMED OF BEING AMERICAN BECAUSE IN MY COUNTRY THERE ARE PLACES LIKE GUANTANAMO BAY JAIL
Comment By amz123, 6-27-09i live in london and have seen and heard stories of many people who were taken into detention in the Guantanamo Bay prison. let me tell you the worst type of torture they actually had to face and trust me if you are a human, you would definately be moved..
as a person is taken into detention, whether with evidence or without it or sometimes with stupid reasons like having taken the pictures of the world trade centre..he's questioned same things again and again and is labelled as a 'terrorist' ..most of them were not even allowed to get a lawyer..after this, he's kept in a very small cell, where he can hardly move..he is treated worse than animals.. his clothes are taken off and head is completeley shaved.. he has a dog collar around his neck.. people come and urinate on his face and he cannot even move as has chains all over him..he can neither sleep nor stay awake.. all he can do is cry and beg for mercy..
i feel that America is very blessed to have a president lke Obama who is humane enough to take action against all this..
after all this torture for severeal years, many were released because of lack of evidence against them..at this point, a person's dignity, and self esteem have completely shattered..and they cannot lead the normal life they did before..any such person who was taken into detention without proper evidence, and was released after years of torture would obviously have rage, anger and a feeling of taking revenge in themselves..this can turn many normal people into the worst terrorists ever!
Comment By femo, 11-09-09i say they should just kill terrorist on sight...torchthem
