Tidwell Named Forester for Northern Region

The U.S. Forest Service promoted Tom Tidwell Wednesday to regional forester for the Northern Region, which includes more than 25 million acres of public land in Montana, Idaho and North Dakota.

“It is a privilege and an honor to be selected as regional forester for the northern region,” Tidwell said in a prepared statement. “The region has great employees and fantastic natural resources. We have many opportunities and challenges ahead of us and I am very excited to have been given this chance to serve.”

Tidwell is now deputy regional forester in the Pacific Southwest Region and, before that, served as a district ranger and supervisor in Utah.

Tidwell grew up in Boise, Idaho, and attended classes at both Washington State University and the University of Idaho before beginning a Forest Service career that has spanned three decades, according to the Forest Service Web site.

Forest Service Cheif and outgoing regional forester Gail Kimbell announced Tidwell’s promotion. His reporting date has not yet been set.
