Free Pancake Day Across the Country

By J. Gelband, 2-20-07

Hurry, there are only a few hours left to get free pancakes.

I am not making this up. The country is flipping for pancakes because today is National Pancake Day, my favorite holiday right after National Take Your Houseplant for a Walk Day, July 27 – also not made up. IHOP (nee International House of Pancakes) is spearheading the holiday with the Second National Pancake Day Celebration and free pancakes.

Anyone can head into their local IHOP for a free short stack of buttermilk pancakes today until 10 p.m. What’s the catch? Community support. For every short stack of pancakes served on National Pancake Day, IHOP guests are invited to make a donation to the Children’s Miracle Network, a non-profit organization dedicated to saving and improving the lives of children with 170 Children’s Miracle Network hospitals across the US, or other local charities.

IHOP restaurants, which have been around for more than 45 years, serve 14 types of pancakes with a handful of different syrups, so there are lots of combos, though only the buttermilk flapjacks are free. There are two IHOPs in Boise, one in meridian, one in Nampa, and four more in other parts of the state. For more info, check out their web sitehttp://www.ihop.com/.

I am also fond of National Talk Like a Pirate Day (September 19) and National Hoodie-Hoo Day. Next year, let's take our houseplants for a walk while shouting HOODIE HOO in pirate voices.

WTH would that sound like, anyway?
