Federal Raids Spark Outrage, Questions

Silverthorne Police Chief Joe Russell was out of town last week when he found out that federal law-enforcement officials were conducting a series of raids to arrest illegal immigrants in his town last week. That was the first he’d heard of the sweep. Summit County Sheriff John Minor didn’t find out about the raids until Friday, two days after they began, and “Dillon Police Chief John Mackey also hadn’t heard about the immigration sweep as of June 21,” reports Summit Daily reporter Bob Berwyn.
The raids were part of a renewed nationwide effort to arrest and deport “fugitive aliens” – illegals who are also wanted for other crimes either here or in their home countries. Hundreds were also arrested in California, Oregon, and other states. The “larger crackdown on immigration fugitives … this year has resulted in the first ever decline in their number, to 632,189,” reports Reuters.
It’s hard to argue that undocumented foreigners wanted for serious crimes shouldn’t be arrested and prosecuted. The problem is that the federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency (ICE), part of the Department of Homeland Security (which is calling its crackdown, begun last year, “Operation Return to Sender") conducts these raids without consulting local officials, and agents feel free to pick up other suspected illegal immigrants (known in agency lingo as “collateral catch,” as if they were porpoises caught in seagoing dragnets) in the process. Often the collaterals are swept away in caged vans, to find themselves on planes to El Paso and then on buses to Mexico, within 48 hours or less. Many of these people have U.S.-born children.
ICE raids earlier this year in San Diego nabs 62 fugitives with outstanding arrest warrants – plus another 297 foreigners suspected of lacking proper documents. “We are extremely concerned that ICE agents have overstepped their legitimate authority,” responded David Blair-Loy, the ACLU’s legal director, “by sweeping far beyond the proper scope of executing an arrest warrant.”
For Chief Russell and Sheriff Minor, the concerns are more fundamental: “The last thing we want are some plainclothes people popping out of an unmarked car, potentially with guns drawn,” Minor told the Summit Daily. “That’s a recipe for tragedy.”
Clearing out the huge backlog of fugitive aliens in this country, along with the pile of FBI background checks for legal residence applicants – part of the 4 million or so immigration and visa applications of all kinds – would be a good thing. “Since 2005, the backlog of legal U.S. immigrants whose applications for naturalization and other benefits are stuck on hold awaiting FBI name checks has doubled to 329,160,” the Washington Post reported earlier this month. That led conservative author and columnist Michelle Malkin to a sensible suggestion: “How about we make legal immigrant applicants the priority over illegal aliens for once? How about we clear the obstructions to the ‘path to citizenship’ for those who followed the rules and came here the right way before we start paving the ‘path to citizenship’ for those who did it the wrong way?”
Conducting armed federal raids, without the knowledge or assistance of local officers, with the clear intent of grabbing dozens of other immigrants without warrants, is not the way to go about it. When you see a bunch of plainclothesmen leap from a dark sedan in your town and start breaking down doors, it might make you think about how broken our current system is – and how infuriating it is that Congress can’t or won’t do something to fix it.
[End of article]Oh boo hoo for the poor poor illegals. If they are here illegally then ICE has every right to take them into custody and deport them. I can't speak of the local law in this story but too many police departments will not check a persons status, no matter what, so ICE must do what they will. Local cops don't want to get involved in enforcing the laws and doing their jobs but then get upset when the Feds get involved. They can't have it both ways.
If an illegal with a child is deported then it is up to the parents to get that child sent to back to their country with them. Sorry, no sympathy when they knew all along, when they entered our country illegally, that getting caught and deported is always possible. That is the risk they take and if they get caught, oh well. You play the game and sometimes you lose. If they just entered LEGALLY, no one would have to worry.

Mind you all, we are all illegal immgrants, the only true natives to this land our Native Americans who peacefully migrated to this continent thousands of years ago without leaving a path of enviromental and social destruction. It was our immigrant blood who stole thier land killed and raped and killed thier families and now we have the right to say who does and does not belong? Sorry to say the same government who is conducting raids on "illegal" immgrants today is nothing more than enthic cleansing, just as the calaveries did with the native americans 200 years ago.
No immigration to this country is legal today or in the past. This land does not belong to us, we belong to it.

The big problem with immigration (and in general, our current political climate) isn't so much that no one is doing anything, it's that everytime someone does do something, they get crucified for it.
The most baseless argument against enforcing our immigration laws is that it might break up families. Does sending someone to jail for dealing drugs or tax evasion break up a family? Yes, so should we stop enforcing those laws as well. Its a typical bleeding heart argument that when taken to its logical conclusion falls apart.

No ID no English call ICE to come and pick them up to further process them. Visit every Home Depot and Lowe's each morning and round up the "illegal" day laborers. Of course the biggest thing would be to fine the hell out of anyone hiring illegal aliens. What ever happened to the I-9 forms all employers are supposed to execute? Dry up the illegal jobs and they will not come.

These raids seem to serve two purposes.
One, so the government can pretend to care about enforcement while they carny sell us on a new comprehensive immigration bill. The only parts of any of the other comprehensive bills they implemented were the amnesty and gravy parts for the illegal aliens. They never do get around to the enforcement parts of the bills. Except as some sort of political maneuver.
Two, seems to be to help establish sanctuary cities.
This is what has happened over and over in regards to the immigration raids in California.
1. ICE will hold small raids.
2. The newspapers will start in with the poor illegal aliens being to scared to take their children to school.
3. Public meeting for the illegal aliens will be organized. In cities around the San Francisco Bay Area the police were involved coaching the illegal aliens how to circumvent the law. Many of the meetings were held in Spanish.
4. The honest people got upset and formed their own groups. Many visited their city councils. This is the link to one of the news stories of the aftermath.

Many honest people are forming groups in their cities and visiting their local city council meetings.
1 Find a place for a meeting. Libraries or coffee shops are good.
2 Let your local news in on what you are trying to do. Patriots or Minutemen are good key words that will let others know what your group is about.
3 Hold a meeting. Get a small group of people elected to help keep things organized and your group functioning.
4 Visit your local city council or other public meetings and let them know how you feel.
Rallies are a good way to let people in your area know what your group is about. Let the police know when you have a rally planned. To keep your group going it can be helpful to have a flyer ready to let people know of your next meeting or rally.

This countries current population growth rate is about 2 percent annually, which means that every 35 years the population will double. So in 35 years our current population will go from 300 to 600 million & in the following 35 years it will be 1.2 billion and then to 2.4 billion, then 4.8 billion & 9.8 billion & ever upwards unless future generations deal with the "perpetual human growth" issue. This year, this country will admit 3.7 million legal aliens. Why should this country always be the "population pressure relief valve" for all countries who fail to do "familty planning"?

So you see, I am not alone in my viewpoint. Secure our borders and enforce the laws that are already on the books to reduce illegal immigration -- and reduce it to the point that it is virtually halted for good. Do that first. Then, and only then, will I and my fellow Americans are willing to hear your proposals for legalization process of illegals (some of them, not all). Then, and only then, will I and my fellow Americans be willing to hear your proposals for a limited guest worker program that does not threaten American wages and jobs that Americans most certainly WILL do.

How could such statistics be overlooked by the liberal media? Intentionally. They are inconvenient. They contradict the myth that liberals and neoconservatives wish to propagate: the "proposition nation."
Since the liberal Enlightenment, liberals and (more recently) neoconservatives have championed the idea of a "proposition nation," which is a radical break from Western Civilization. What is the proposition nation? It is an abstraction with no real place in culture, time or history. I read many posts on the net from Compassion concerned Americans advocating Amnesty and even open borders! Many label any of us concerned about both as racist, & worse. I can certainly understand their Compassion. I have lived in third world counties & seen the horrible conditions they live with, hunger & poverty on a scale most Americans cannot imagine. In fact, if I could have ignored the hungry kids begging I would probably still be living there. But I made the same mistakes there that many of the Amnesty and open borders advocates are making here. At first I gave a few coins to the little filthy starving kids living on the streets, after all it cost me so little and did so much for them. But the next day where there had been three there would be 10 the day after 50 until it got to the point where it was impossible for me to help. If I had given them everything I had it would have helped them 1 day and put me in their condition. The USA gives Billions in foreign aid, we take in more legal Immigrates then the rest of the world combined. But no matter how Compassion we are we cannot ignore economics 101 we cannot become the welfare state for the world with our open borders and an unlimited supply of virtually slave labor. We are lowering the standard of living for all working Americans by both decreasing the wages and increasing the social costs & damage to this Nation in every area from, Crime, Corruption of our Politicians, Business leaders, Pollution, Energy use, Water, Congestion, Welfare, Medical costs, Education, Insurance etc. There are those that say the solution is simple give them amnesty so they will pay taxes etc. However, Illegal Aliens have an average of a 6 grade Education which compares to a 3 grade education even by our very poor education standards. So they are averaging consuming 3 dollars in social services for every dollar they pay in. With their high birth rate and low income nearly all will get income tax credit from 1500 to 3200 returned every year & come nowhere near paying in enough to pay the average 7K to 10K each year costs to send their children to school. Considering inflation the Average income for Americans has been decreasing every year for the last 20 years! In the long run trying to be compassion and help the illegals pouring across our open borders helps no one and hurts all. Nothing is accomplished by turning this into another third world nation which is already started & if we give this Amnesty for the far more number quoted of 12 millions by the Government & all there chain immigration we are looking at adding probably at least 100 million of poorly educated Citizens an underclass that will quickly become unsustainable. Back in the 60’s the Federal Government came into the public schools and brainwashed us as little children with the message that the children we were about to have were unwanted because the population was rising so fast. They launched a program called, “Zero Population Growth”. They pushed Family Planning and birth control pills. I think you and I now both know that you only have to trick people for their few child bearing years and there is no going back.
Many of us never had a say in the future of our unborn.
I am the result of two living cells. One from each of my parents. They are the result of two living cells, one from each of their parents. I wasn't just born. I am a continuation of life. I am a living thing that reaches back into time perhaps 400 million years and the result of billions of joining of pairs of cells. It is possible that if you were to follow my cells back to my parent’s cells and beyond that my family tree touches every living thing here on earth. That is if we limit ourselves to believing life was created here on earth. If it rained down from the immensity of the universe it could reach back into that immensity of time and space, and who knows what relationships and who knows what species.
At least until I came up against the Federal Government and their plan to control the population.

The open border, United States laws only apply to some, is a serious slap in the face. No, not a slap in the face, it reaches well beyond that. Maybe back to the beginning of time and stretch to the bounds of the universe.

They were asked why passing this bill was such a priority. They replied that big business was worried that state and local governments were passing “harsh” laws against ILLEGAL immigrants. Flag Lady Roberta here in the San Francisco Bay Area along with a group called, "Fire Coalition", filled a lawsuit against San Jose. San Jose settled out of court and agreed to cooperate with Federal authorities with the enforcement of the law. I imagine that means we are back to the days before they declared themselves a sanctuary which may not be much different.
Still it was a victory of sorts.
They have also filled suits in other cities.
