It’s convenient that Halloween is on a Wednesday, because folks can throw costume parties the Saturday before, which happens to be exactly what a bazillion people are doing.
Boise is full of Halloween activity this Saturday, and I’m a little nervous because I still don’t have a costume. Any suggestions for an easy, comfortable costume on the cheap are much appreciated.
Despite what one might think, I am not that into Halloween. It always seems to creep up on me while I am still wearing flip flops and hoping it isn’t too late for an Indian summer.
I have a turtle costume I wore for the last three years (although one year I was a tortuga, which is Spanish for turtle). It is a good costume, but it might be getting a little played out by now, so I’m taking ideas for a new costume.
Here’s your chance to help: Offer costume proposals in the comments section below. Rules are simple: I need to be comfortable (sneakers), it needs to be inexpensive and it can’t be Larry Craig related, because that, too, will invariably be played out. I’ll pick a costume from your suggestions and the winner will get a NewWest.net T-shirt.
Hurry, I only have until Saturday to get ready!
Also, please share what you are going to dress as for Halloween, and let’s skip the I’m Not Telling Game because no one is going to steal your rad idea at this late a date.
Music pirate: a cross between a rocker and a swashbuckler. Need: long hair or wig, iPatch, iPod. Sword optional.
Comment By Bob Wire, 10-24-07You could glue wigs all over your body and go as a hairball.
Comment By Jill Kuraitis, 10-24-07...and if you poured some runny oatmeal over the wigs, you could go as a yacked-up hairball. I say originality trumps disgustingness every time.
Comment By Tricia Keener-Blaha, 10-24-07Well...we have a costume that's perfect for you and already ordered. It's one of us 4 seasons...winter. Here's the link. It's beautiful and will fit. Could add a camisal if you think it's too revealing. Ha! Letmeno asap cuz we need winter for skiiing! Can't have just 3 seasons!

You could strap a bowling trophy to your head and go as the mormon temple.
Comment By Kit, 10-24-07My in-a-pinch favorite: all black and call it "Nothing." A tail and ears morph the basic black into "black cat." I could go on and on....but everything begins with nothing....
Comment By ralf, 10-24-07wrap yourself up in aluminum foil and go as a robot. grab a set of scissors and go as a stabbing robot. just make sure you don't actually stab anyone/thing.
Comment By Missa, 10-25-07Wow I love that picture above. A tortuga one year!
Well in terms of costumes....you know the booger was always a hit. One of my favorite costumes was a dear in headlights. I just wore brown, stuck little ears on a headband and stood with my eyes open wide. Simple, yet challenging.
Black shirt, pants and hat. Tie little toy people, houses, animals to black thread and sew all over. Spin around, and you're a tornado!
Comment By J. Gelband, 10-29-07Congratulations to Ralf of Boise, who emailed the idea for a Halloween costume: Wear a red shirt and hot glue black felt circles to the back and be a ladybug.
That's exactly what I did and it was a cheap, easy success! He wins a NewWest.net T-shirt.
