Work is a very reverential thing. It is the exchange of one's time and effort in service to others for sustenance. Owners of businesses have the right to pursue happiness and the American dream in their own way, except when they disrespect the labor of their workers, cheat or misrepresent themselves to customers, and when they lose all sense of humanity.
When I drive the streets of Missoula and I look out the windshield of my well-heated truck and I spot workers shivering in the cold holding signs and wearing costumes to attract business, I am disgusted. I make a mental note of the name of that business and I vow to go out of my way to avoid being their customer. I also suggest to my friends to do the same.
Demeaning workers brings down the spirit of our community.
Owners, get a clue, or get out there and wave those signs yourselves while you freeze in a blizzard. Missoula should be better than this.
