Something under my chair went tremble, shudder, whop.
It was just a baby whop. Right around 7:16 this morning, when I was writing.
As an ex-Californian who grew up with frequent small earthquakes, I had the fleeting thought that it might have been….in Idaho?
Naw.
Then I thought backward a few moments and remembered my dogs had been going ape for about five minutes, and I couldn’t figure out why.
I had given them each a cookie and a shrug, returned to my chair, and there was the whop.
CNN droned softly in the background, and I picked up the phrase “earthquake in Nevada.” Six-point-three. I whirled around to face the TV – yep, it was crawling across the bottom of the screen.
The U.S. Geological Survey has this: “The quake, centered 11 miles southeast of Wells, Nevada, struck at 6:16 a.m. PST, with a shallow epicenter of 6.27 miles (10km) deep.” Full report here.
Did you feel it? Is it a sign? Last night’s lunar eclipse, and now an earthquake?
Let’s have some new conspiracy theories. I’m sick of Area 51 and alien abductions.
I felt it in the North End too... I guess it wasn't just a drum circle...
Comment By Sisyphus, 2-21-08End timers' delight. Meteor, lunar eclipse, earthquake within a couple days. Next thing you know we'll be electing a black man for president.
Comment By Sharon Fisher, 2-21-08I didn't feel a thing in Kuna.
Comment By Sisyphus, 2-21-08My assistant did Sharon.
Comment By Linsey, 2-21-08I live in Idaho, and I was laying in bed and I feel the whole house start to shake, my bed was moving back and forth. It was pretty crazy!
Comment By 6degrees, 2-21-08It seems rather unusual that I didn't feel the quake. I've always been rather seismically sensitive, but I suppose I just slept through this one for a change!
All these "end of days" phenomena and all I got to experience was the eclipse...oh and the black president thing as well :-).
That was the satellite hitting the ground. Did you smell the hydrazine?
