| Hillary Clinton drew loud cheers Tuesday, promising to include Indians in her health care plan and to tackle health issues like diabetes. | |
| Francine Dupuis, center, a member of the Kootenai tribe who lives in Pablo, was determined to attract Clinton's attention when she gave the audience an opportunity to ask questions. Dupuis wanted to know what Clinton was going to do about the Gaming Commission. Clinton said she would support tribal sovereignty. | |
Guess we will see what Montana Democrats think on Tuesday. Good writing Kaylee!
Comment By Sam Harnish, 5-28-08"(The Indian Health Service, funded because of treaty obligations, is the sole source of healthcare on most reservations. The IHS gets $2,000 fewer per capita than inmates in the federal prison system, according to federal figures.)"
Great fact, Kaylee. I had no idea. But I would like to ask, "Which 'Federal Figures'"?
Sam, that figure comes from a document called "The Quiet Crisis: Federal Funding and Unmet Needs in Indian Country" by the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights, July 2003. You can download it here: http://www.usccr.gov/pubs/na0703/na0731.pdf

"Should she overcome Obama's comfortable lead..." Keep dreaming lady! I have to say though I am pretty sick of these presidential candidates sniffing around here so much, schmoozing us for our votes. As soon as one of them becomes president, you know they won't set foot in our state again, or at least until the next election. If they really want to impress the constituents, make a stop here once you're president. We already know what you're stances are, we already know what you're planning to do. So leave us alone!
Good writing, Kaylee :)
To Whitney
We really need a President who is a little bit more in tune with our country though. Obama's slip of the tongue the other day concerning the United States "57 states" was a little disconcerting until I happen to stumble unto this.
The Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) is an international organization with a permanent delegation to the United Nations. It groups 57 nations, most of which are Islamic, from the Middle East, Africa, Central Asia, Caucasus, Balkan, Southeast Asia, South Asia and South America. The primary goals of the OIC are, according to its Status, "to promote solidarity among all Islamic member states."
